Furthermore, Siebel Reports are tightly integrated into Siebel. They implement Siebel visibility (i.e. they prevent users from seeing data which they are not authorised to see) and allow users to subset data using Siebel Query by Example (QBE).

However, as data volumes grow and report complexity increases, report execution time can degrade beyond the point of acceptability. This is because Siebel Reports access their data through the Siebel Business Component layer which is optimisied for data entry and interactive enquiry, not for high volume reporting. It is possible to dramatically improve performance by accessing the database directly but the benefits of this tight integration are then lost.
